Scribe vs Savage

Our Poster of the week this week draws inspiration from the classic two colour boxing poster. Packing a punch on the street the poster is instantly recognisable and conveys the message in an efficent and effective manner.

Phantom Attacks Cookeville, TN: Jeffery D. McCaleb

Phantom Attacks Cookeville, TN
During Phantom Billsticker's Poem Poster run in 2009, Jim Wilson was generous enough to send me some of the posters of my poem that were plastered across NZ in June and in parts of Tennessee later.

The local University in Cookeville, TN had a bit of an issue with dorming during the Fall 2009 semester & had to house some 90 or so students at a few local hotels, one of which I am employed as a part-time desk clerk.

The Carson Strat: by Bill Direen

Bill Carson's original 1959 Strat

When I was in France a drummer invited me to his practice rooms in a suburb of Paris called Montreuil. We made a good noise together and one jam led to another. I decided to get a hold of a back-up guitar which I could leave in the Montreuil practice room to save me carrying my own guitar across town each time. I wasn’t looking for an expensive guitar, since it was possible that other users of the rooms would use it, and ... you know how it is, perhaps it might be “borrowed” one day and never returned.

This was a nice, clean run lasting several days whilst driving through the Mississippi Delta in an old Plymouth Fury procured from a rent-a-junk in Nut Bush, Tennessee. As we got closer to the end, Clarksdale, Mississippi, things became very clear. They ended up being clear as a country creek (Truman Capote).

Poster of the Week: The Oxford Lafayette Humane Society.

The Oxford Lafayette Humane Society: Paws For Art Auction Poster.

Jim Wilson saw this poster last week whilst in Oxford, Mississippi. The poster (approximately A2 size) immediately drew him in and it had a kind of omnipresence around the town as it appeared in seemingly dozens of locations. The colours are striking and the image of Bella is very heart-grabbing. The details are very clear. There are similar animal shelter/care organisations in New Zealand that need funding to continue their good work.

Here are a few:
